good rule of thumb is when you see the leaves on the trees starting to change
color it’s time to blow out your irrigation system. When you see ½ inch of ice
on your local pond it’s too late. Underground sprinkler systems in this part of the country need to be winterized by forcing air through the sprinkler lines, and heads with a large air compressor. This is done by first turning off the water, then hooking up the air compressor to the main line of the sprinkler system as close to the source as possible. Then run the compressor while turning on each zone until it is empty of water. 12 inch mister zones will require that you step on each individual head while the compressor is running that zone to remove the water in the base of each head. Once you have completed all the zones you must disconnect the back flow preventer and store it for winter. The final step is to back drain the system. There should be a hose bib located near the water shut off valve. Open it and drain the remaining water into a bucket. Your system is now safe for the winter. Here at Allscape we offer sprinkler Start-ups service. We charge $50.00 plus $5.00 per zone. This year we will take $25.00 off the price for all new customers. |
